We are currently looking for stimulating articles, appetizing recipes, impactful photographs, and advertising placements, for the Summer Edition. Deadline date Friday 26th April. Where possible, please email your submission (or advertising order) in advance of the deadline date. This will greatly assist the editor.

Remember to include details of your “invoice address”. An invoice will then be sent to you detailing the charges that apply, together with information concerning payment options, either via cheque made payable to Whiteshill & Ruscombe Parish Council, or BACS.

Main Road resurfacing.
With many issues around communication, the resurfacing of Ruscombe Road was stopped. The Parish Council have been trying to find out further information as to when this will now be programmed. It WILL NOT be in the programme for this financial year 2024/25, and Highways are unable to commit as to whether it will be in the following year. The below is the response we have received from Highways:
“Nothing programmed at present. It doesn’t rank particularly highly on condition score. I added it to last year’s programme as a result of some extra funding received late in the year, foolishly, I believed it would be well received.. That funding was as a result of the local action redirected and spent elsewhere. Any resurfacing would still require the road to be closed, as per the standard information sent out but not accepted here. Basically, the opportunity to fund from additional pot missed. Will now be done only when it ranks highly enough against all others. It didn’t make the cut for the 24/25 programme.”
When this does come around again, the Parish Council will liaise with Highways and request that a representative comes out to talk to the community and have all queries answered, and the Parish Council will continue to do all they can to help those affected with the time the road is closed.
Annual Parish Meeting
This will be held at the Village Hall on Thursday 23rd May at 7.30pm. Come and have a chat with your Councillors about what has been achieved in the last year, and what is being planned for the coming year. One of the main topics will be the new Biodiversity policies coming into place and how the community can have an impact on this and join in. The elections for Parish Council this year are uncontested and there will be 2 vacancies which will be advertised after the elections have taken place. If you are interested in being co-opted onto the Council, then please get in touch as co-option could be taking place in the June meeting once publicised. Two current Councillors have stepped down this year – Steve Tomkins and Iain Roberts; thanks goes to both of them for their work on the council over the years.
Elections
Elections for District Councillors and Police and Crime Commissioner will still be taking place on Thursday 2nd May, with the polling station being at Whiteshill and Ruscombe Village Hall. Don’t forget you will need ID to vote.

Play equipment
The Parish Council are looking into replacing some of the play equipment – this will include an accessible roundabout and a basket swing seat on the play area, and a table tennis table on the playing field. If you have any comments on this please let us know and we will keep you updated as the project progresses.
